With London's rich history and culture it is the ideal city for filming. The capital has appeared in thousands of films and TV productions from period dramas to comedies and sci-fi. Remember Dr. Who's the Cybermen and Rose Tyler's home on the Brandon Estate in Southwark? London famously appeared in many of the Harry Potter films too including the iconic scene of the Knight Bus on Lambeth Bridge and of course Platform 9¾ at King's Cross Station. Period dramas filmed in London include Downton Abbey where scenes of Grantham House were shot.
Many iterations of Sherlock Holmes have been filmed in London including the popular modern version starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. London's Victorian architecture lends itself well to such dramas, and movies based on Charles Dickens books have been filmed here around Covent Garden, Embankment and Strand.
And of course James Bond is no stranger to London with the MI6 headquarters based at Vauxhall Cross. The Swinging Sixties is well represented too with films such as The Knack and the Beatles A Hard Day’s Night.
Rom-coms filmed in London include Notting Hill and Love Actually, and horry movies such as An American Werewolf in London are well suited to the city. It seems every one turns in London there's a film crew on the corner of the street.
